What started as an internal email exchange within the Eastern Union company to help the wives of those killed in Har Nof, has spiraled into a campaign beyond their imagination.
“On Thursday night, Rav Nissin Kaplan was called by a close friend who told him that he would double whatever is raised before Shabbos,” Eastern Union President Ira Zlotowitz tells TLS. “At the time of the pledge, around $20,000 was raised from about 100 people.”
“I let my company and all the donors that gave until that point know about the matching funds. I am humbled to have been a small part of it, but getting a matcher until Shabbos was all that was needed for the power of going viral to began.”
Amazingly, within the next 24 hours leading up until Shabbos after the announcement of the generous donor, over 1,500 different people gave online over $250,000. In addition, there were plenty of people making pledges and mailing them in.
“I spoke to Rav Nissin tonight. He told me that he spoke to the matcher and they he was beyond blown away by how many different people donated and the total amount. The matcher got a few friends on board and they agreed to match up until $1mm or this Friday, whichever happens first,” Ira tells TLS.
