Inspections Department Could Soon Issue Parking Summonses Downtown

With some of the downtown ordinances being rewritten, the Township’s Inspection Department could soon begin issuing parking summonses in the downtown area, officials say.

Over the next few months, the Township Committee will be implementing several ordinances to improve parking and other issues for the downtown, one which will include parking enforcement governed not only by the Police Department, but also by the Inspection Department.

The fines, which will be lowered, is to “motivate good activity and not to generate revenue for the town”, an official said.

Last night, Township officials held an open forum where residents were able to voice their opinions on some of the proposed ordinances. Despite a light showing at the forum, a Township official tells TLS many have submitted suggestions to the Township via email ahead of the meeting. TLS.

  1. Why don’t they make sure the active construction sites are kept safe and clean? Lakewood is the only town that allows builders to leave there things all strewn about without any safety or cleanliness consideration! Agav they would also make more $$$

  2. Not sure how giving out tickets to illegaly parked cars is going to “improve parking” won’t that just put more cars on the road looking for parking?

  3. and maybe the garbage men can pick up the day laborers who are hanging downtown…….
how about we hire more police officers to do these jobs

  4. I hate the downtown, always cops around looking to gotcha on the phone or something, now we have untrained inspection guys on our backs… Il stick to a safe shopping mall!

  5. POLICE!!!! POLICE!!! THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE FOR. OH YEAH DOWN 30% OF THE FORCE THIS IS A CHEAP WAY FOR A MONEY GRAB….. US TAX PAYERS SHOULD NOT NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN

  6. well #6 if you weren’t on the phone the the cops wouldn’t getcha, got it!
And, the cars that are double parked should be towed, it is very hard to get around when cars are like that.

  7. why not let the inspectors do their job, and the police theirs? next we’ll have inspectors pulling people over! what is the logic in this? there are no parking meters downtown anyway, so i am not sure what they are ticketing for?

  8. This is the most retarded proposel I have ever heard! The insection department has no bussiness giving out tickets. Its pretty amazing that this is the same township that was so against LCSW, is now going to let loose a whole bunch of untrained inspectors to enforce traffic law. Truly amazing

  9. 1. need a SINGLE POINT OF CONTACT in the township, so that the person can be praised/communicated/kicked-out etc…
    2. need CLEAR OBJECTIVES

Yes you can its called a civillians summons. Make sure to apear in court for the case or the police will stop taking you seriously & wont issue a summons the next time!

  11. every car that is double parked should be towed! it backs up the entire downtown and makes getting down clifton avenue a nightmare! our police dept doesnt have time to ticket parking infractions when we have people leaving their vehicles & homes open to thieves and gang members shooting and stabbing each other.

  12. IF THE INSPECTORS HAVE TIME TO WRITE TICKETS WE DON’T NEED THEM TO INSPECT HOUSES. SAVE THE TAXPAYERS SOME MONEY BY PRIVATIZING.

  13. Maybe if some of the people in our town could follow the parking laws and also show a little common sense and common courtesy we wouldn’t have this problem. Furthermore I suggest that we allow them to not only ticket people downtown but across the whole town too. To the ones that want to complain that it’s a money grab, just park properly and you don’t have anything to worry about!

  14. I applaud the town for cracking down on these scofflaws. there has been multiple times where I couldn’t find parking yet some guy decided to take up 2 spots by parking over the white lines. If only they could ticket all the drivers talking on their phones and not caring robbery other laws in the process.
