The following statement was submitted to TLS by BOE winner, incumbent Yoni Silver: I would like to thank the voters for coming out in such large numbers to support me. I understand that everyone is busy and its much appreciated. The biggest winners today are the children of Lakewood. They now have unwavering support from a dedicated board whose only interests are the children.
Every child, whether they are regular or with special needs, deserves the opportunity to the the best learning experience in the most comfortable environment.
I am proud to have enhanced the learning experience of many children by allowing a second vendor to have the opportunity to to service more children.
Looking forward to continuing to help the Tzibbur (community) in as many ways as I possibly can.
All the childrens of Jewish community in Lakewood or all the childrens of Lakewood??? Just asking
Looking forward to continuing to help the Tzibbur in as many ways as I possibly can.
Well for one thing if you really represent all children how about using English words everyone can understand?
But as a member of the “Tzibbur” I implore you. Please don’t let me see editorials in the non-Jewish papers complaining about you don’t care about their children.
#1 your bitter racist comments have no place here
Now ask a question is being racist?sorry then. I wonder because last time I saw the statistics of public schools rating in Lakewood were on the floor! but Never mind, who cares anyway right?
Yoni – we are very proud of you.
He is referring to all the children of Lakewood.
All the people in Lakewood pay property taxes, which pays for the entire education budget of the public school children, and the bussing expenses for the private school children (as per NJ State law).
This money is administered by the Board of Ed.
In addition, the Board of Ed is responsible for administering State and Federal funds for special ed children in the public and private schools of Lakewood (as per NJ state and federal laws).
Yoni Silver cares about all the children of Lakewood that are under the responsibility of the Board of Ed. He will make decisions based on what is good for the children of Lakewood and for the taxpayers of Lakewood. NOT based on what certain special interests want.
That is what this election was all about.
Someone correct me if I am wrong… but not ALL of the people pay property taxes (or any taxes for that matter).
I believe it’s only the LEGAL residents that pay taxes while their children enjoy busing and many other benefits with OUR hard earned tax $$$
Yoni… I havent seen you in over 25 years but I am very proud of you.Keep on making a kiddush hashem
we are in good hands with Yoni
#7 are you totally in a bubble! renters pay property taxes also the landlord includes it in the rent
To “Just Asking”
If I were to be forced to answer your accusation as to WHY the Lakewood public school system is down the drain I’D be called a racist! Understand or is it too difficult??? If the students in the PS system would have normal parents who WANT them to be educated maybe they’d be better educated. Think about it a bit.
“Just Asking”
Which PS district were you in? YOUR English is down the tubes too!
To #6 Yid who said “…and the bussing expenses for the private school children (as per NJ State law)…”
State law requires busing for children who live further than the mandated busing limits. Children who live within the limits can walk. There is NOTHING in the state law REQUIRING “courtesy busing”. That is something the town can provide if it wants to AT IT’S OWN EXPENSE.
#13 Anonymous says:
you are 100% correct ,many other towns in NJ charge for that service
To Number 11: In my opinion, painting with a wide brush is not constructive. Large classes & teacher turn over does not create a learning environment.
The parents who suffer with children with dissabilitys hope you understand their plight, and not create political agendas prior to kmowing all the facts.
Uncle yoni mazal tov. you make us so proud here in brooklyn.
Now a little note to all the legal citizens of lakewood, you are in the hands of a man who really cares and is not looking for respect. If you really have an issue with the towns schooLing department how about doing something about out.
Don’t try to bash something you know nothing about.

‘what certain special interests want.’
tell us who they might be
unlike most other nj townships like brick toms river etc lakewood public school is comprised mostly of minority children children of immigrants illegals etc where ever these populations exist like harlem south bronx camden trenton etc the schools have the same problems lakewood has it is not the board or the teachers or money it is simply a lack of discipline motivation a respect for education it is a problem all accross america wherever minoritie students comprise the bulk of the student body
Yoni, you are doing a great job, please come up with a better way to solve the bussing crisis, instead what has bben done so far in the past.
I believe you will see a different kind of BOE then ever before. The majority of the board is now dedicated to all the childen of Lakewood. Everyone must understand the public schools and the non pub needs are much different and have to be addressed as such.
Hopefully everyone will see a difference and the negative comments will stop. The election is over, it’s time to move forward-unified
Congratulations Yoni, thanks for your devoted service to all children, having you on the BOE has been refreshing and, lets take advantage of this opportunity to improve the education of all children in our community.
