PHOTOS: During the height of Hurricane Sandy last night, at about 9: 15 PM, the communication systems of the Lakewood Police, Lakewood Fire Department and Lakewood Chaveirim, failed.
Recognizing the severity of the situation – of dispatchers being unable to communicate with its members, several Special Units of Chaveirim trained to handle the most severe emergencies, went to help.
With the key to the repeaters room nowhere to be found, Chaveirim members – along with officers and DPW’s SUpervisor Tony Arrechi – busted open the room and go to work.
After much hard work and a creative ideas by the Chaveirim Special Operations team members, they succeeded to get the Repeater back up and running.
“Without Chaveirim, it could have been up to two days or more for the repeater to start working again”, an official tells TLS.

Wow ! Chaveirim Special Ops does it again. They’re unbelievable. Rescue after rescue – they always come thru. We’re forever grateful. DB.
I really hope the oilam responds generously to their next “we were there for you, are you there for us?” Campaign. If not, they may have to make a jog-a-thon. If they do, Sign Me Up !! If its, like, a short one. Not to, y’know, the catskills or the like. D.
I am sure D/C Desimone had the key somewhere!
