A project that has been years in the making has finally come to fruition.
As the Lakewood region continues on the path of explosive growth, the demand for doctors keeps increasing, and unable to keep up with the growth.
Instead, local families have increasingly been seeking medical attention at urgent cares and beyond.
In an effort to home-grow doctors, Askonim have been working for years to try and open residency to local residents in an effort to grow the doctor base.
Now, Hackensack Meridian Health has taken the first leap and opened two Shomer Shabbos residency slots in 2023, sponsored by Bikur Cholim of Lakewood.
“This program will ensure that our Jewish medical students can stay true to their cultural beliefs following the Jewish calendar, while pursuing a career in medicine ultimately serving our communities,” Hackensack Meridian Health representative told TLS. “Located near Lakewood and traveling distance from New York, the program will be a bonus for those who would like to do their residency close to home.”
Hackensack opened one Shomer Shabbos slot in their pediatric resident program, and one slot in their adult internal medicine program at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
“The representative added, “We thank Bikur Cholim of Lakewood for sponsoring this program and bringing this vision to fruition.”
I am old enough to remember when Jews opened their own hospitals. How about instead of nursing home scam operations, we start funding a real hospital?
We’re waiting for your starting donation.
Thats what happens when you fire Dr’s for not getting the jab
Now we need for bikur cholim to fund a pediatric dentist too…..
This is so nice to hear, frum doctors are very needed. Who would have guessed that Bikur Cholim was working on such an important project behind the scenes? Bikur Cholim, you are always on the spot. Amazing organization.
Thank you for a beautiful and true comment.
