In Contrast To President Obama: Rick Santorum’s Victories: An Opinion About What It Means

By: Aaron Joseph. Those who have not yet grown weary of this lengthy political primary season know that Rick Santorum, former two term Senator from Pennsylvania, upended the seemingly vicious, until now two man race, and scored three unexpected Republican primary victories this past Tuesday.

Two of the three, both Minnesota and Missouri- larger than not electoral states, were sort of more-or-less shrugged-off by most pundits as not all that important, albeit impressive none-the-less. However the third, Colorado, was clearly unexpected. Mitt Romney was expected, if not downright predicted to carry the state- and by a large number at that. Of course the Santorum boost and sudden roadblock of the Romney and Gingrich momentum, was amazing!

So what happened? A few opinion pieces back, I wrote that eventually, the conservative base will seek someone like Rick Santorum, representing someone truly reflecting a stable, conservative record. I wrote that the Republican party base will fall in line behind Santorum. Is that what happened? No- at least I don’t think so yet. I have two other worthy estimations, both fueled by this following all important understanding.

Whoever has traveled beyond the Mason-Dixon Line, or the Missouri Compromise Line, understand that there really is more then one United States. While truth be told, that each neighborhood across the land shares many differences, there is a huge cultural imbalance in the U.S., especially between the eastern half of the country and the western half. To the casual traveler, the western part of the country may seem “so relaxed,” or “so polite,” and so on, it is far more than that.

The driven, hard nose, careerists, those who seek fame and fortune, all end up in highly intense competitive areas together. Be it in New York City, Washington DC., Miami, Los Angeles, and many such huge metropolitan areas and their environs. These many driven people, crave a liberal liberty so as to further their agendas. Hence, we always find these areas to by-far lean in a much more liberal direction. The mass media, all conglomerated and based in these high-influence competitive market driven population areas, tend to disseminate that same liberal message as the areas they are located in. It might be well for one and all to realize, that the popular news outlets share this same do anything to succeed competitiveness, and it is only the very select few (to literally be counted on digits) and most competitive who manage to bring us our news.

Then there is the other side of the United States, the ones who need not beat the other fellow out to succeed attitude.

In my opinion, there are two reasons why Rick Santorum has beaten- even Mitt Rimney in the very recent election cycle. No, it has not yet been the mainstream Republican awakening. Rather, because of the terrible furious antagonism that had sprung up in the Florida primary contest between Mitt Romney, and Newt Gingrich. Most of the less competitive and easy going, well mannered American’s, were sickened to the core by their most devious, disgusting display of political hooliganism in the history of primary elections.

Colorado, with it’s most competitive, moderate-liberal leaning metropolitan area being Denver, was still considered safe for Romney, even the pundits knew that. In fact, Mitt Romney did win the Denver area in the primary. What the pundit’s were not expecting in Colorado was, the base of the Republican party to come out across the state in droves, those away from the liberal leaning, and cutthroat competitive arena, to vote for Rick Santorum, the one man who had stayed above the fray thus far, and proved the most to reflect the polite, respectable, levelheaded, everyday American.

This I believe is the great American political divide for this current Republican primary season. Liberal leaning metropolitan areas verses conservative leaning out-of-town natured individuals, and the hardnosed competitive professionals, versus the easy going, everyday small-town America.

If one is to review the breakdown of county by county victories and losses during the ’08 presidential election like I did, you will see a very easy to spot and amazing pattern. Barrack Obama carried only the most popular counties of the largest electoral states. Nearly every one. The Obama camp knew exactly the delicate balance of population, state by state, county by county, district by district, knowing exactly how many precisely were necessary to win, in order to carry the state. Naturally, Obama by far heavily targeted those areas that his message would resonate within, and only campaigned in those specific counties.

In fact, out of 67 counties in Florida, a state with 27 electoral votes, and a pivotal swing state that for a longtime has been a state so very important in the general election, Barack Obama only carried 16 counties, that is 16 out of 67 Florida counties during the 2008 general election. Yet Mr. Obama won the state by over 200,000 votes. He won the liberal areas, and those that were controlled by the mass-media markets, all 16 out of 67 counties. As he did in state after state. John McCain won more counties in Illonios, Barack Obama’s home state, than Barack himself. Of course Mr. Obama won Cook County and the Chicago area by a landslide of more than 1,400,000, and of course carried the state.

The United States is at a huge political and cultural divide, perhaps insurmountable. Mr. Obama clearly represents Liberalism and downright egotistical competitiveness that can only be divinely enamored by the liberal, and their mass media outlets. As for the rest of the country, and world, there is a choice of who is most different than Mr. Obama, and what our current president represents.

Will this choice to offset and contrast Mr. Obama be Mr. Romney, Mr. Gingrich, or Rick Santorum. Recently it has dawned on the public that suddenly, Rick Santorum comes across as the most different than Mr. Obama.

  1. Obama is very American-phobic. So that disqualifies Obama in most American’ book.

Remember, the Conservative base of the Republican party DOES NOT WANT Romney.

They tried Gingrich, but the media took him down. They are now going for Santorum, who happens to be an absolutely great conservative.

If the media takes down Santorum, the base will have no choice but to go with Ron Paul. Anyone but RomneyCare/ObamaCare.

I hope it’s not Ron Paul. This I hope it IS Santorum.

    WE PICK RICK!!!!

(Don’t you love it that the (liberal) Republican elite is running scared and confused that Romney can’t seem to wrap it up???)

  2. First of all. Rick Santorum is not homophobic. He is a religious family man who cares greatly about society. Rick Santorum also keeps the law. So where there is a law about gender-rights, Mr. Santorum respects it. Where there is no law, Mr. Santorum speaks on his convictions based on religious views, that same gender marriage is a horrible sin. That does not at all make somebody homophobic. (homophobic – one who vividly denounces and has no tolerance for bad)

Second of all, I agree fully with this author. Well written piece. Many agree that “Most of the less competitive and easy going, well mannered American’s, were sickened to the core by their most devious, disgusting display of political hooliganism in the history of primary elections.” For that reason alone I am actively campaigning for Rick Santorum.
Third of all, everyone in the political cycle will tell you today that it is obvious that Rick is “the one man who had stayed above the fray thus far, and proved the most to reflect the polite, respectable, levelheaded, everyday American.”
Fourth of all, in my own opinion, Rick Santorum is the only candidate with a bona fide conservative record. He comes across as dignified and respectful, and has my vote.

  3. I don’t get what you mean here, “These many driven people, crave a liberal liberty so as to further their agendas.”

Although your thoughts are interesting and smart, you should consider brushing up on your grammar. Multiple errors and poorly formed sentences make it hard to take your opinions (however well-informed) seriously.

  4. Why does the Scoop give a political platform to Mr. Joseph who is obviously a biased conservative? When he starts spewing the FOX mantra of socialism, main stream media bias, etc, he negates the credibility of his statements. Pres. Obama has accomplished more to repair the damage caused by the Republican party during their reign from 2000-2008 than we expected. The Stock Mkt may exceed 13,000 soon. It was 6,200 when he took office. Unemployment is down. etc etc. Why does Josephs not address how the Republicans propose to improve on our economy, joblessness, etc. Tax breaks for the rich do not work. Yet that’s their platform. The Republican drive to cut gov’t spending at the expense of the poor and middle class will devastate Lakewood. Imagine Sect 8, aid to education, cuts to HUD, Medicaid etc hitting our community? A vote for a conservative President is a vote for disaster in Lakewood.
