In Budget Address, Murphy Proposes Increased Funding For Security And Transportation

In an address to the Legislature today, Governor Phil Murphy laid out his administration’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2021. Two of the most consequential items in the budget as far as Lakewood is concerned is increased funding for security for private schools and non-profit security grants, and an increase in transportation funding.

The budget calls for security assistance for private schools to be increased from $150 per student to $200 per student for a total of $6.5 million, making security assistance provided to public and private schools equal. The non-profit security grant would be raised from $2 million to $5 million, an increase that would do much to help secure religious institutions.

There will also be an increase to the general fund for transportation, but the details of that increase and how it would affect Lakewood’s LSTA are not yet clear. Details are expected to become public on Thursday.

  1. The Governor is keeping his campaign promises, he said he would raise our taxes and no tax was exempt, so get ready to give the Governor more of your hard earned so he can give it away.
