Lakewood Police Chief Greg Meyer released the following message to TLS today.
If you are leaving for Shabbos Chanukah, be sure to:
1) Leave lights on in your home – preferably on a timer.
2) Check that your windows and doors – including your car doors – are locked.
3) Leave a contact number with a neighbor in case of an emergency.
4) Leave a car parked in your driveway.
If you’re staying home for Shabbos, keep an extra eye out in your neighborhood for any suspicious activity, and report it immediately to any patrolling officer.

I cannot even begin to count how many homes on my block were dark and lacking any semblance of occpancy during Shabbos this week. Consider it your Channukah nes that you were not robbed, especially after our neighborhood was affected by robberies this fall.
