Important Message from Chayim Aruchim: Do Not Check Off Or Sign Forms Blindly

Following an incident, Chayim Aruchim has issued this important public service statement.

When completing forms for medical procedures, it’s crucial to read and understand the content before checking or signing. Be vigilant, as some institutions may have preset options, such as organ donation, already selected. Uncheck any unwanted options and be aware of pop-ups confirming your decisions.

Certain form elements might conflict with Halacha. Our community must remain aware that these forms may subtly advocate values contrary to Halacha.

While our medical institutions boast exceptional professionalism, we must distinguish between medical expertise and values imposed on us. Stay informed and assertive when navigating these forms.

  1. they are clearly TRYING to be vague, so not sure what you are trying to say.
but their point is CRYSTAL CLEAR. dont jus sign. LOOK at what your signing!

  2. This is intentionally vague because it is intended to be broad.
Signing blindly can include a myriad of pitfalls including: DNR, organ donation, autopsy, release for medical decisions without consulting the family (living will) or in some really unethical medical practices respecting your will to the charity of their choice.
