Important information from the LSTA

The LSTA provided TLS with the following information as the new school year gets underway.

The LSTA busing runs Monday through Friday beginning on September 1st, through June 30th. Any other days – including all Sunday busing – are serviced privately between the schools and bus vendors.

We have finalized almost all the routes, and the remaining routes will continue to be worked on.

There will be no change-requests or move requests for the first four weeks of school. This policy will be enforced across the board in order to allow the vendors to be able to service the routes in a safe and efficient manner. We understand that some of the stops or routes may need to be altered and improved, but ask all parents to allow the routes to settle in for four weeks before requesting any changes.

For the first week of school, all primary children MUST have a name tag with address pinned to their uniforms (clothing) both to and from school. Failure to do so may result in your child not being allowed on the bus. Primary parents must meet their children at their drop off locations daily.

Please note, that some children may have different AM and PM stops – so it’s important to look closely at both AM and PM bus passes to confirm stop locations.

A special thanks to the individuals that take care of transportation in each school.

We are here to serve you and look to continue to improve in any way we can in order to serve the Lakewood Community.

  1. It is only considered safely – if children under 10 are let off the bus on the same side of the street they live on – when it’s a 2 way street. In the morning a parent can cross them, but more often than not afternoon busses arrive at such different times that it is very difficult to wait each day for a 7-8 year old for 45 minutes to an hour – only to cross them the street – when they can easily run down the block if they would be let off on the correct side. In past years I was extremely frustrated that not only will drivers not accommodate this but LSTA also isn’t reasonable to consider this extremely unsafe issue – even when another route from same school does pass by the correct side.

  2. I am in need of a babysitting stop for my primary daughter, I emailed Lsta and they responded immediately and were very informative. They assured me they can help.me ina few weeks when the routes are settled. I was very impressed! Thanks

  3. Well I sure hope they end up being more accommodating this year – but if they accommodate convenience (babysitter stops) over safety – then their priorities aren’t straight.

  4. Thanks so far nothing hs happened. Now they’ll respond but let see if they do when it’s the point they should be helping. Since the lsta has taken over my boys were put on a bus that’s a ten minute walk from my house. I finally got them to switch my younger son but my older still has the walk. And once again my two boys are not in the same bus on Fridays. My emails are ignored and I can’t get anyone on the phone.

  5. To anon:
You have to go down to their office that is the only way anything will change- last year my 5yr old’s stop was 10 min walk away and a week after i went down to the office and filled out a form my kids stop was changed bh.

  6. I am very thankful for the late taking on this big project for the klal. However, they seem to have lost sight that they are there to do that – to help the klal. Dropping off kids on the wrong side of a 2 way street is dangerous. Not making a switch when kids are on the wrong bus with a statement that no routes or changes will be made for the 1st month is not reasonable and is not an acceptable response by the lsta on such a scenario.

  7. @frustrated – what sounds unreasonable to you is impossible for them. Virtually everyone has complaints the beginning of the school year. If they accept complaints from day one, nothing will get done. It only makes sense from a logical standpoint to allow everyone to settle in and then focus on changes that have to be made.
