Hatzalah Miami-Dade provided TLS with the following important message:
It is fairly certain at this time that parts of South Florida will be affected by Hurricane Dorian. As the storm approaches, we would like to make you aware of the following information to share with your communities:
We strongly urge everyone to be proactive and not wait until the last minute to implement a hurricane preparedness plan. Preparations include bringing in yard items, having flashlights and batteries on hand, filling up your car with gas, having water and non-perishable foods available, filling prescriptions, taking out cash, etc. For more information on hurricane preparedness, please visit https://www.miamidade.gov/hurricane/library/guide-to-hurricane-readiness.pdf.
In the event of an evacuation order, we strongly urge you to leave the evacuation zone and relocate to a safe location. We are aware that there are residents that may need assistance with relocation, and are prepared to assist as much as possible.
If you or a family member living in the affected areas has a medical condition that is dependent on electricity, such as oxygen, etc., we strongly urge you to do your best to relocate to a safe location with more reliable electricity.
Hatzalah will remain active and will continue responding to calls throughout our regular coverage areas until such time that it is unsafe to do so.
The emergency hotline number for true medical emergencies only is (305) 919-4900.
We have also established a non-emergency hotline for non-medical issues. The number is (305) 490-5274. Please do not use the emergency hotline for non-emergency calls.
An emergency management command center is being set up to serve as a base of operations before, during and after the storm.
Residents who are remaining in town are strongly urged to register with Hatzalah using this form and provide information such as location, how many people, contact info, andĀ if there are any people with medical conditions who may require assistance.
We hope and pray that all of these precautions and preparations will not be needed.
