  2. I once heard a shiur from a mekubal in Eretz Yisrael about the simanim we eat on Rosh Hashanah . He said that the apple is because it has , ta’am, mare’e& rei’ach and its against the 3 things we ask for; banei; chayei and mezonei.
    Someone mentioned to him that he heard from his rebi that the reason his because of the brachot that Yaakov got from Yitzchak were given on Rosh Hashanah and his clothes smelled from apples.He said he never heard of it and if there is no reliable source he doesn’t buy it….

    Now that I heard this second to none shiur and the Rav quoted it from the Gaon of Vilna in the name of the Zohar Hakadosh , it’s a bingo!
