As earlier reported on TLS Status, the Howell Township Independence Day Celebration scheduled for Thursday, July 2nd has been postponed due to the forecast of extreme heat, township officials announced.

Officials said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution to protect the health and safety of residents, noting that the expected high temperatures could create dangerous conditions, particularly for young children, older adults, and those with underlying health conditions.

The postponement also aims to ensure the safety of volunteers, vendors, performers, first responders, township staff, and everyone planning to attend the annual celebration.

Township officials acknowledged the disappointment the postponement may cause but said delaying the event is the most responsible course of action given the forecast.

A new date for the celebration will be announced once arrangements have been finalized.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions during the extreme heat by staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and checking on vulnerable family members and neighbors.
