In April, the Howell Police Department will participate in the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety’s “Put the Phone Away or Pay” initiative, targeting distracted driving across the state.
“During the month of April our agency will be participating in the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety program ‘Put the Phone Away or Pay,” Howell Police said. “It will be a Statewide crackdown on distracted driving. Distracted driving remains a significant threat to public safety, and each year, too many people lose their lives in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers.”
New Jersey sees numerous distracted driving crashes annually, often linked to phone use. The campaign brings heightened enforcement, with fines beginning at $100 and increasing for repeat violations.
It is time that there is a cracked down on distracted drivers. Everyday I see drivers on their phones not paying attention to the roads. Now, if Lakewood would only join in this crack dawn.
I believe the fines have gone up a few yrs ago to $200 first offense and $500 second
Just imagine how much money each town would receive from those that are ticketed from distractive driving.
