Howell Police Issues Statement on Supreme Court Gun Carry Ruling

The Howell Police Chief today issued a statement with regards to to the new ruling which would allow residents to obtain a carry permit without providing justifiable need.

“Since the recent court ruling pertaining to requirements for those seeking a permit to carry concealed handguns in the state, the importance of accurate information surrounding this topic is a priority from our department to our community,” the Chief said.

“The most significant change in the application process is the elimination of the requirement to submit a written “justifiable reason/need” to issue such a permit. All other requirements remain in place and our department has and will remain in compliance with the requirements of the state’s issued process for municipal departments to abide by.

Application packets are available within the Criminal Justice Complex (Records Bureau) during normal/operating hours, in addition to being found/printable (along with other informative resources) at the New Jersey State Police website.

We expect courtesy, respect, and patience from our staff, as we equally do of our residents during this evolving process, as it is a significant change placed upon all of us.”
