Two suspects were arrested yesterday following a brief foot chase after attempting to steal thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from a store in Howell, police said.
“Officers responded to the ULTA in Howell Commons on the report of a shoplifting having just occurred with the actors fleeing the store in an unknown direction on foot,” police said. “Ptl Matt Cuzzo spotted the suspects in the rear of the plaza running toward a wooded area and directed officers to that area.”
Ptls Elie Lavarin and Matt Zilinski pursued the suspects on foot. Plt Lavarin apprehended a 25-year-old Manhattan resident while Ptl Zilinski apprehended a 21-year-old Bronx resident.
Further investigation revealed that both subjects attempted to steal over $6,300 worth of merchandise from ULTA, police say.
Both suspects were charged with 3rd Degree Shoplifting and 4th Degree Resisting Arrest by Flight.
The merchandise was recovered, and the pair were transported to Monmouth County Jail on these charges and other outstanding warrants.
