How Technology Has Changed the Way Authors Write

Modern technology has opened up big opportunities in the writing world. The statistics show that 84% of fiction authors are changing the ways of publishing and distributing their works. For instance, most authors prefer self-publishing as it allows them to have creative and financial control of their work. Moreover, technology helps authors interact with their readers, which is a great advantage for their careers. These are not the only changes induced by the development of technology. The way the authors write has been also transformed by technology. Let’s consider the aspects of alternations below.

Enhanced creativity

Some people say that technology is compromising the ability to be creative. They believe that smartphones stifle original thinking as the Internet gives us a template for everything. Also, social media might provide an echo-chamber for what we think, minimizing the creative conflict that could lead to new ideas. What’s more, technology provides access to a limitless amount of content that authors can draw from, copy, or even steal.

Even though in the minds of many, technology and creativity are in opposition, if used in the right way, it could give a positive outcome. Technology is not about killing creativity, but about enhancing it. Through various web platforms, authors can hone their writing skills and get inspired by others. Moreover, social networks allow writers to get together and explore new ideas or techniques.

Thanks to technology, authors in tiny villages can reach a  broad audience on the other side of the world, so they are more encouraged to develop and share their creativity with others. Online forums and media platforms represent safe discussion arenas where exercises and conversation can stimulate original thoughts.

The opportunity to write more essays

Technology is a game-changer for authors who write in big volumes. Modern tools allow them to complete their work within a short period, so they can create more compositions. Compared to the past, typing directly on a laptop is obviously faster than using a typewriter or a pen. Besides, technology has enabled authors to publish their work almost instantly.

Some digital tools also influenced the work direction of many writers. Today, more and more professionals don’t focus solely on creating books or magazine articles. Some of them are currently interested in academic writing. There are numerous opportunities for experts who decided to try a new writing style and help students with their education process. So they choose to work for edu birdie or some other online services providing assistance to learners. Such platforms have expanded writing opportunities for authors and allowed them to apply new techniques.

Deeper research

Technology has contributed to the quality of writer’s work by giving them a possibility for better research. The internet allows us to have access to extensive volumes of information, so writers don’t need to scour through numerous books to find the information they need. Consequently, the writing process not only becomes easier but also upgrades.

The standards of writing become higher as readers are more demanding now. They need something outstanding in quality, so authors devote more time to research and seek more valuable information to add to their work.

Easier proofreading

Numerous online tools make proofreading and grammar checking significantly easier. The editors don’t need to do it entirely on their own, they can rely on technology. For instance, Google Docs Consistency Checker can examine the consistency of long texts, while Grammarly does a great job of fixing grammar, spelling, and more.

Such tools as Text-to-speech allow authors to listen to their work and catch spelling errors more easily. Moreover, they can hear awkward sentences, phrases, and paragraphs that need to be improved. Professionals can also get help from Ginger, which is a great proofreading app available for Android and IOS. It also offers an easy-to-use desktop tool and a Chrome extension that checks a text for grammar issues and possible rephrasing of sentences. Besides, Ginger has a built-in dictionary, translator, and thesaurus that dramatically ease the writing process.

Final thoughts

As you might see technology has significantly affected the way modern authors write their works. It influenced various writing aspects, such as creativity, volume, research, proofreading, and many more. Also, it can be checked in author’s biography blog. Digital tools have not only enhanced the quality of writing but also facilitated the process itself and made it more enjoyable.
