Today marks a historic day for the Jackson Township Fire Service as its career firefighting staff officially begins 24-hour coverage for the first time in township history.
At 6:00 AM this morning, Jackson Fire District #2 (Whitesville and Cassville stations) launched its new full-time staffing model, transitioning from a weekday and alternate weekend schedule to 24/7/365 career coverage. This change expands the current structure from three platoons to four fully staffed crews, ensuring a constant professional fire service presence throughout the year.
An official told TLS that Jackson Fire District #4, Jackson Mills, and Fire District #3 (Station 55) will implement full-time staffing later this year.
Officials emphasized that this shift does not mark the end of volunteer service in Jackson. All volunteer companies will continue to provide vital round-the-clock coverage alongside the career staff.

Jackson Taxes will be rising
Would you rather your home to burn? Your family be injured?
How many FFs is fully staffed? How many on each engine and truck?
This is not the first time in the history of just the most recent. Jackson had paid drives 24/7 in the 70s-80s
How does this not curtail volunteers ? So volunteer firefighters are expected to serve along side those with career salaries, benefits including healthcare and pensions ?
Volunteerism is a gift to the district. Yes, they serve with the paid firefighters. Many hours, holidays, weekends. My husband is one and he never considered he wasn’t paid. He considers he is providing safety.
