Help Rabbi Milstein Save a Life Before Yom Kippur

img_5270By M. G. We all gasp when we hear about the ghastly deaths of teenagers, who come from Torah homes, due to overdoses and suicides. But unfortunately, we also have become resigned to this awful reality and figure that there’s not much we can do about it.

A teenage girl from a large, beautiful Lakewood family was nearly lost in exactly this fashion, right in our own community. However, instead of gasping and krechtzing, Rabbi Yerachmiel Milstein of Kehilla Ishay Yisroel in Lakewood decided to do something about it. Just as soon as the teenager was hospitalized, he launched an emergency campaign to raise the funds to provide the proper treatment to help this young person recover and hopefully face a bright, healthy future.

In this case the treatment involved a costly residential rehabilitation program, to the tune of $60,000 ($20,000 per month x 3 months), an impossible sum for the teen’s large, overwhelmed family.

In order to assure that the young patient would be released from the hospital directly into the rehab center, Rabbi Milstein personally guaranteed the amount and launched an immediate online matching funds campaign to raise the significant amount of money. Working feverishly, commitments of $30,000 were obtained to match, dollar for dollar, everything that is raised online.

The campaign for the funds (which are needed the day after Yom Kippur), went “live” online and approximately $15,000, or half the needed amount, has been raised to this point.

Here is Rabbi Milstein’s message:

If we all pitch in today with whatever sums we can, whether they are token amounts or significant contributions, we will be”H help save a precious Jewish soul still before Yom Kippur.

And, one more thing. Please pass this on to as many as you can to amplify the zechusim!
