Tonight: Yeshiva Heichal Hatalmud parlor meeting: Here’s a ‘Behind the Scenes’ look at the Unique Lakewood Yeshiva

by C.S. It is during first seder, and the bais medrash is bursting with energetic bochrim, each one engrossed in learning alongside his chavrusa. Some learn with their peers, while many learn with an older, married chavrusa.

The atmosphere resembles that of other prominent yeshivos, where the boys have learned until their arrival here. As they delve into the sugya before them, they radiate a sense of contentment, focused on the gemora in front of them. Soon they will go to offices, warehouses, and stores around Lakewood – each job arranged and vetted by the Yeshiva’s hanhala – and spend the afternoon working, before heading back to Yeshiva for supper and night seder. However, for now, their focus remains solely on the pages before them.

It is a phenomenon that may seem different to many, but it is business as usual at Yeshiva Heichal Hatalmud.Yeshiva Heichal Hatalmud was founded two years ago by Rav Chatzkal Greenberger and Rav Moshe Weiss. The two have extensive experience in the field of chinuch, and mechanchim pressed them to open a bais medrash for serious bnei Torah for whom a whole day of learning was still beyond their grasp, but who sought to remain and grow in a structured Yeshiva environment.

Being such a delicate topic, they sought advice and guidance from a number of gedolim, who all prevailed upon them the necessity for such a yeshiva. With daas torah in hand, Yeshiva Heichal Hatalmud opened its doors. The need for the Yeshiva was immediately clear by the level of its success. The Yeshiva has been full to capacity, zman after zman. The bochrim have thrived, growing and flourishing in every manner possible. The influence of the yeshiva becomes more noticeable with each passing day.

Learning with an older chavrusa has proven to be the key to many bochrim’s hatzlacha. Although it comes along with a large financial strain, nothing is worth more than a bochur’s success. Yeshiva Heichal Hatalmud employs a number of yungeleit, allowing each bochur to maximize his potential. This, along with all the other functions of a yeshiva, naturally costs a tremendous sum each year.

Tonight, the Yeshiva will hold its second annual parlor meeting. The event will take place in the home of Rabbi and Mrs. Yitzchok Oelbaum, 19 Adams Street, and gives the tzibbur a chance to collaborate in the rewarding journey the yeshiva leads. Each yochid’s attendance and contribution goes a long way in helping the yeshiva accomplish its mission.

The guiding pillar of the Yeshiva from the onset has been Harav Elya Brudny, Rosh Hayeshiva of Yeshivas Mir in Brooklyn. Harav Elya is a chinuch giant, and his profound daas torah helped the Yeshiva become what it is today. Harav Elya will iy”H speak at the parlor meeting, and will address the topic “Is there a place for a yeshiva bochur in the workforce?”. The special address is scheduled for 8:30.

  1. Finally! It’s about time something is being done to help out those bachurim struggling in the “cookie cutter” they have been subjected to ever since they were six years old.

  2. It’s great to see that this type of Yeshiva is finally becoming mainstream, and that it has the support of daas torah. Will definitely support.

  3. Unbelievable!!! That was a Parlor Meeting to be at!! There were times you couldn’t get through the front door. Reb Elya Brudny spoke great & really backed this place!! Those Rosh Yeshivos are great people. They should keep up the unbelievable work they are doing for Klal Yisroel.
