Many are wondering about the strong smell of smoke in Lakewood and Jackson.
Residents are being impacted by smoke from a large wildfire burning within the confines of the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst range.
”The fire is expected to remain on Joint Base property,” the NJ Forest Fire Service says. “The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is not presently assisting with this incident.”
UPDATE: Rabbi Moshe Rotberg issued the following statement to TLS: “As a result of the nearby fires with fumes affecting our area, after consulting with local medical professionals, the following is important to note: Those with Asthma, COPD or any respiratory issues, should not sleep in the Sukkah if their area is affected with poor air quality, as this can exacerbate their airways.”
Is it unhealthy to sleep in the succah where the smell of smoke is strong or is there no concern? It does not sound like health officials are saying to stay indoors.
Shouldn’t be eating out there either.
