Beginning next year, the nation’s 75 million “baby boomers,” the huge generation born between World War II and the Vietnam War, will begin turning 65, becoming Medicare-eligible at the rate of about 10,000 a day. Throughout New Jersey, that bubble of retirees will begin entering the systems. In Ocean County, with 121,000 of the estimated 573,000 residents already older than 65, that acceleration will stress taxed government agencies set up to deal with seniors.
About 36,000 Ocean County residents (6 percent) are ages 60 to 64 and will reach Medicare eligibility within the next five years, U.S. Census Bureau estimates from 2009 show. Read full article in POAC.
