Health Screening: What are You Doing About It? By Ezi Levi

By Ezi Levi: Over the last few years, there has been a health screening for people in Lakewood to come and get their blood pressure, cholesterol and weight checked -among other things. The question is, have you beenchecked recently, and if you have, what have YOU done about it?

Lets face it, you know you need to lose weight and at a minimum, change your eating habits -but you either don’t how, or just aren’t motivated to do it.

The truth is, if you make a commitment to make the changes, you have won half the battle. I recently heard a great line and started using it myself-

WHEN YOU ARE INTERESTED-YOU’LL DO WHATS CONVENIENT
WHEN YOU ARE COMMITTED – YOU’LL DO WHAT IT TAKES.

So let’s just say that you go to the screening, and find out that you need to lose weight, have cholesterol through the roof etc…. stop and ask yourself- do I want to wait until chas v’shalom I find myself in a situation where I HAVE to make the changes ? or am I going to start rethinking my relationship with food and, quite frankly, the way I live my life? (you know what I mean-dealing with stress, keeping crazy hours, not doing any more physical activity other than lifting a fork to your mouth- oh excuse me- a spoon too).

So how do you go about making those changes? Well, you certainly don’t have to do it alone – you can team up with a friend and/or family member so that there is someone who you have to answer to – and/or you can go to a diet coach who can help you – by not only putting you on a diet, but by helping you address and perhaps change or overcome some of the bad habits that have seeped into your daily routine .

But most important of all, and I will say this over and over again. Until you are willing to make the commitment to start being healthier, it wont happen-period!

I’ll leave you with some suggestions to get you started:

1) Every time you eat, start with a cup of water -including when having a snack.
2) Eat at least one fruit or vegetable every time you eat- or at least at every meal.
3) Make the commitment to find 10-15 minutes a day to do some sort of physical activity- walk, jog, run, walk up and down the stairs in your house 5-10 times, workout at a gym or whatever- just get moving and you will feel better and be a lot healthier.

SO, now when asked- what are YOU going to do about it? I think you’ll be a little bit better prepared to answer the question!

Hatzlacha Rabba!
