Haz-Mat Team summoned to Lakewood after multiple patients are treated for chemical exposure [VIDEO & PHOTOS]

An investigation is underway after multiple people suffered from chemical exposure at an apartment building in Lakewood, with at least one patient hospitalized, officials say.

Authorities and the Lakewood Fire Department responded to the John Street apartment building shortly before 6:00 PM and found multiple people exposed to some type of chemical inside the building.

At least four patients were treated, with one requiring hospitalization, officials said.

The Haz-Mat team from Berkley Township, as well as mutual aid from Jackson and other towns were summoned to the scene.

Dozens of other residents were displaced as officials investigate.

UPDATE: Officials say the chemical was from a Covid-19 cleaning taking place in the building.
