Harav Yecheskel Roth Shlita On Shidduchim: A Girl Older By 2 Years, ‘Shat Nisht’

r_roth shlita tlsEXCLUSIVE AUDIO: During last night’s visit of Hagaon Reb Yecheskel Roth Shlita, the Posek was asked by a parent what the Rav held about boys in Shidduchim marrying a girl which is older than he. The Rav answered, “Es ken zain a gitte zach, mit dem vus zees elter bei a yur tzvei, shat nisht”. (Translation: It could be a good thing. With this that she’s older by a year or two, does not harm).

Last night, a Kabolas Ponim was held for the Rav at the Weider residence.

  1. Old topic!! Of course it could be good. A fat girl can go with skinny short with tall smart with dumb, if the person can handel it! Everyone is entitled to what they need. Its not a halachic question that needs to be publicized everytime some fool asks a rabbi about it. Live and let live!

  2. A famous story with Rav Aron zt”l. Rav Ahron was a shadchan for 1 of his bochurim & after they went out – Rav Ahron zt”l asked nu ?. The boy said she is taller. Rav Ahron zt”l, whose wife was more than a little taller than him said – Ichhub kein mohl nisht gevoost as dos iz a chesoron (I never knew that was a problem).
A problem is only if u make it a problem, but if it bothers you then it’s a problem.

  3. #1,
Watch your mouth. Horav Roth Shlita doesn’t need your ‘Divrei Chizuk.’
If the Rov decided to answer the question, then who are you to comment on it.

  4. Here in America, a big problem is that even the same age or younger girls are often more mature than the boys of the same age. When you add a a year or more to the difference, it makes things even more mixed up. The girls have been going to school and working, while also growing in maturity. The boys have been languishing in the system, often living in squalid conditions in some dorm, not exactly learning life skills. Then when they marry, people want to know why there is conflict.
