Handicapped Person: Is There Nowhere Else To Dump Snow Other Than In The Handicapped Spots?

PHOTO: Following yesterday’s report of the crackdown of ADA parking spot abuse, a reader sent us the attached photo, asking why shopping centers tend to dump snow in the spots designated for handicapped persons.

“Out of the 2 ADA spots in the entire shopping parking lot, did the they have to place the snow there”? the handicapped person vented.

The reader hopes this will remind shopping mall and store-owners that ADA spots should be kept clear at all times. TLS-PK.

I suppose the thought is that in inclement weather, when navigation is treacherous, handicapped people are less likely to be out & about since they would depend (more so than a person without their challenges) on clear footing/wheeling in the lot once they got out of their car, even if parked in a handicapped space, something which cannot always be guaranteed.

Wrong #2. Sometimes that snow will last for weeks. They do it probably because some places have a lot more spots than is actually needed for the disabled customers, But it’s still WRONG!

maybe the piles are there because there is usually signs and concrete in the parking lots. So the plow is unable to move around them as easy as the parking lot spaces for the general public. If anything, shovel the spots clear but in lakewood, it does not matter becuase people who are not handicapped park there. Why – : It was only for a minute”

Are stores mandated to provide handicapped parking?
