Gym Shut Down By Murphy Becomes Rik Mehta Campaign Headquarters

Ian Smith and Frank Trumbetti, the owners of Attilis Gym who famously defied Governor Murphy’s orders to close and were subsequently arrested after refusing to comply by his orders, announced today that their gym will become a campaign headquarters for Republican Senate candidate Rik Mehta.

Speaking to Fox & Friends Weekend, the owners said that it had not been their intentional to make their fight political. “We took a stand for our constitutional rights and for the rights of all small business owners throughout the country,’’ Ian Smith said. “It wasn’t intended to become political. We were trying to offer a solution to a problem where the government was failing, and it turned political. And that was because of Gov. Murphy’s actions. So now we made it political just as much as he has.”

The gym will now serve as a campaign headquarters and rallying spot for Rik Mehta, the conservative GOP Senate candidate who will face Senator Cory Booker this November.

“We’re really tired of this one-sided control that the governor has,” Mehta told Fox News. “We’ve asked many times, where’s the science? We flattened the curve, and they keep moving the goalpost.”

Governor Murphy referred questions regarding the announcement to the Attorney General’s office, who have not yet commented.
