GYE tells TLS, that since posting about the serious problem of Internet Addiction, approximately 60 people asked for the ‘deletebrowser program as a result. “And that’s not to mention the many others that probably got helped by finding out more about our work and signing up for the daily chizuk e-mails and joining the phone conferences”, says Yaakov, the GYE Administrator.

I was one of the 60 people that asked for the deletebrowser program. I had just got a blackberry for my wife and was uncumfortable with it hanging around the house. But 60 people?! That’s a drop in the bucket! There are probably thousands of blackberries in lakewood. Are all the rest such big tzadikim that they can leave the browser and never be nichshol? Can someone give me the mussar sefer these people use? I would like to be able to be on such a high level. I mean seriously I think its demoralizing to advertise such a low response. I’m shocked that the editors of tls and gye consider that a success!
If the goals of this program are to give people the chizuk to get rid of the blackbery and not have internet in the home, then I wish them a lot of hatzlacha if they are trying to teach people to learn how to guard the eyes with a blackbery and internet at home then even though I’m sure they mean well they are wasting their time. Just like you wouldn’t try a program called how to guard yourself when stuck in a yichud situation don’t try this. The only eitza is to stay away.
If you do not want to view the WEB why spend the money for a Blackberry? That is what this expensive device is used for. You can buy phones that will only let you talk, not play on the internet. I’ve got one. No texting, no internet, etc. I can just talk on it.
For those who read the article above and are wondering how to delete the browser from their Blackberry, simply send an e-mail to [email protected] and we’ll send you a program to delete the browser.
We also have a daily “Shmiras Einayim” Chizuk list which is meant for everyone, not specifically for those who have already stumbled.

And I’d like to just end with one last link: an interesting article that Rabbi Twerski just wrote for Torahweb.org this past Friday.

Thank you TLS for making all this info available le’Zikui Harrabim!
i have a blackberry for 2 years already and i HAVE a filter on it for 2 years! i pay to have it filter be dan lechaf zhus!!
Yoish! Its mamesh geferlacha problem. I’m so glad my husband works in crunch and munch and doesn’t need intanet.
i deleted my browser. It is basically like this either you have internet at home or not.not everyone who has a blackberry is addicted to their blackberry.but those who are need to look at themselves honestly, and realize they are wasting all the precious time that we were given as a gift. how many times are we learning with our childeren or with a chavrusah and we are not giving them the time they really need.how about our spouses they also need out time and our attention.we are not virtual creatures we have been given talent and power of speech from Hashem ,not to live virtual lives. i am browser free, and to the person i stood next to on chol hamoed by the rides while i was enjoying my kids i wsh you can delete your browser too. your happy kids will thank you.

I need it for email. My job requires instant email response very often. And text messages hold too few words and you can’t attach documents. Actualy for this purpose the blackbery is the best because a regular phone can have email but you need to go onto the browser to use it. Blackberry is unique that the email and browser are not connected to each other so you can delete the browser and still have email. Hope this was helpful and remember try to be dan lekaf zechut
In case you weren’t able to call in yesterday to the first “Shmiras Einayim” phone conference, you can call 712-432-0990 and enter the code 424479 to hear a recording.
It was a very inspirational shiur!
Please join us again tonight at 7:15 PM EST (details in article above).
