Group to Gather Early Sunday Morning in Lakewood to Observe Unusual Astronomical Phenomenon [UPDATED]

moonReader-submitted: Sunday morning, January 31, from 5:45 until 6:10, we will gather to observe an unusual astronomical phenomenon, the visibility of all five visible planets together in the morning sky, Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and possibly even Mercury. This has not occurred since 2005.

No experience or equipment is necessary, but if you have a pair of binoculars, it will enhance your experience.

We will assemble in front of the Villas shul at 901 East Kennedy Blvd.

We will try to help the group identify these celestial bodies. If the sky is not fairly clear, it is understood that the event is cancelled, and will be rescheduled for Monday, or the next clear day.

This configuration of the planets will only remain in place for a short period.

UPDATE: Due to cloudy skies, event rescheduled for Tuesday morning, same time.

  1. I remember taking late night walks in camp aguda in the late 1970’s with Rabbi Belsky ztl where he would amaze us all with his vast knowledge of astronomy and point out stars and constellations and various gemara’s that mention them! Yehi Zichro Boruch
