PHOTOS: Last night, after packaging thousands of dollars worth of Judaica items, Menoras, food, toys and clothing, a group of Lakewood aAkanim, led by Mayor Menashe Miller departed for Ukraine on a Chizuk mission for the embattled local Jewish communities.
During the visit, the group will be visiting many of the local Jewish institutions including the Cheder and Yeshiva Kollel, and will be meeting with local community leaders – led by the Chief Rabbi of Kiev, Rabbi Yaakov Bleich. The group will also meet with Kiev government officials, and ambassadors to the US and Israel.
The group will also be taking part in many Simchas over the weekend, including an Aufruf, a Sholom Zochor and Upsherin.
Also on the trip, the group will visit many Kevarim including the Kever of Reb Dovidl of Skverre, who is buried in Kiev and whose Yahrtzeit is Sunday.
On Sunday, the delegation will attend the wedding of Reb Natan Margolin, one of the leaders of the Kiev Jewish community, who is marrying a local girl in Kiev on Sunday evening.
A fund has been set up to pay for the wedding with hopes of raising $18,000 to pay for the wedding expenses of this young couple. Please donate at the following link http://www.rootfunding.com/campaign/ukraine-wedding-fund-natan-chana Currently, only 29% of the funds for the Chasunah were raised.
(Trip expenses were all paid for by the participants).
Who’s paying for the mayor’s security detail. Flying to Ukraine a dozen Lakewood police officers from the township’s elite protection unit must cost quite a bit.
The Yidden of Kiev need our support during these times. Just look at the news and see what kind of unrest is in that region. Of course, as in any society they blame it on the jews
