[COMMUNICATED] If you took a look at 22-year-old Nosson Nissan walking down the street this morning, he wouldn’t look any different than he did in the same spot in Jerusalem a month ago. On the inside, however, everything has changed.

A month ago, Nosson was acting as a hospice nurse for his sick mother, in their shared 1-room apartment. Now, his mother has passed away. A month ago – even a week ago – Nosson was engaged to the kallah of his dreams. Now, it looks like that might not happen.

For the child of a single parent with cancer like Nosson, getting married was something that needed to be saved for. When he finally got engaged, it was a welcome moment of happiness for a family that had truly struggled. When mother Rivka’s condition made a severe turn for the worst, however, the young man was faced with a painful choice: He chose to use all the money he had to care for his mother, make sure she had a roof over her head, food and medication, and then – tragically – a Jewish burial, plot, and tombstone.

Now the young man is mourning his only parent, and without resources for the essentials: A simple hall & catering, a suit & shoes, a place to live, appliances & simple furniture are all far beyond his budget, which is effectively zero.

Does he regret it? “Of course not.” Nosson’s mother was an amazing mother & caring for her in her time of suffering was a necessity and a privilege. But, will it cost him his future?

Donations are being collected to help keep Nosson and his kallah from cancelling their wedding, and to provide them with the essentials that any normal groom with parents would have. It would transform his story from tragedy to hope. And from that hope could spring a new Jewish family, with two loving, healthy parents – The things Nosson & his brother always dreamed of.
