Governor Murphy Vetoes Bill That Would Help Restaurants Hurt By Delayed Reopening

Governor Phil Murphy today vetoed a bill that would have allocated $30 million from federal Covid-19 funds received by New Jersey to assist restaurants and caterers who were hurt by the governor’s decision to delay their reopening.

New Jersey had been on the verge of allowing the state’s restaurants to reopen at certain capacities in June based on the state’s reopening plan, but Governor Murphy delayed allowing their reopening as new cases spiked across the US.

Many restaurants and caterers had invested significant funds into preparing for their reopening in June, funds which were lost due to the delay.
