Governor Murphy Under Pressure to Require Masking in Schools

Governor Phil Murphy is coming under increasing pressure from Democrats, including members of his own administration, to require students to mask up while in school.

Perhaps foremost among the Democrats pressuring Murphy into the decision is Assembly Education Committee Chairwoman Pam Lampitt (D-Camden).

“The most recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that masks should be worn indoors in schools by all individuals over the age of two who are not fully vaccinated. The American Academy of Pediatrics has gone one step further in recommending that all staff and students over the age of two wear masks, regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status. In light of these recommendations, New Jersey schools should, at the very least, consider implementing a mask mandate for all unvaccinated individuals in our school buildings,” Lampitt said.

“With COVID-19 cases on the rise among unvaccinated residents, requiring masks in schools would be the most prudent way to protect our children and educators during the upcoming school year. If there is no meaningful decrease in infections over the next few weeks, New Jersey must be prepared to reinstate masking requirements in our schools.”

Governor Murphy has previously said that the state will not require students to be masked at school, but with cases surging in New Jersey, many are calling for the reinstatement of mask mandates.

Numerous medical and infectious disease experts have stated repeatedly that children are at extremely low risk of serious illness or complications from Covid-19, and that forcing masking on young children is completely unnecessary.

However, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recently stated that they believe all children should be masked up while in school.

Governor Murphy on Monday said he has seen the recommendation from the AAP, but had no plant to change New Jersey’s guidance and mandates at this time.

  1. Let’s see how many of these democrats actually follow these rules, “rules for thee but not for me that’s the motto of these tyrants they’ll probably jump on another plane just like their fellow idiots from Texas .

  2. I think Murphy has to look at coumo and be more active to protect the lives of people of the state that he’s governing. He should start following coumos lead and should there be an uptick he should close all indoor minyanim and Yeshivos unless he’s certain it won’t cause deaths. He doesn’t seem to me to be taking his job seriously.
