Governor Phil Murphy today declared that New Jersey will enter a state of emergency beginning at noon on Saturday

ahead of Winter Storm Harper, authorizing the State Director of Emergency Management to activate and coordinate response and recovery efforts. Executive Order No. 50 indicates a state of emergency across all 21 counties in New Jersey, and allows resources to be deployed throughout the state during the duration of the storm.

“As Winter Storm Harper approaches New Jersey, I am declaring a state of emergency across all 21 counties,” said Governor Murphy. “Our top priority is the safety of New Jerseyans, and we urge residents to stay off the roads and prepare for potential power outages. We will continue to monitor the storm and quickly respond to any storm-related needs.”

New Jersey is expected to experience heavy snow accumulations. Heavy rain is forecast for southern counties. Minor coastal flooding may occur during the high tide on Sunday morning.

In preparation for the winter storm, the New Jersey State Police will activate the State Emergency Operations Center to constantly monitor the storm and the New Jersey Department of Transportation will deploy more than 2,500 plows and spreaders to keep roads and communities safe.
