New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed two bills today aimed at bolstering the state’s beleaguered energy infrastructure by expanding large-scale energy storage and community solar generation.
The measures are designed to strengthen grid reliability, lower long-term energy costs, and broaden access to renewable power.
The first bill establishes a transmission-scale energy storage incentive program to achieve New Jersey’s goal of 2,000 megawatts of energy storage by 2030. The program seeks to rapidly install new clean energy capacity and reduce costs for New Jersey’s energy customers.
These facilities will store excess electricity generated during periods of low demand and release it when needed, reducing dependence on fossil-fuel plants that operate only during peak demand.
The second bill expands the state’s community solar program by authorizing an additional 3,000 MW of new projects. The legislation removes the previous 150 MW annual cap on new community solar generation, with the aim of allowing projects to come online faster and enabling more households to access solar energy without installing rooftop panels.
Supporters of the measures say they represent a significant step toward ensuring reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity for both residents and businesses across New Jersey.
Both bills were introduced in reaction to the recent hike in energy prices, now affecting residents throughout the state and comes on top of several other bills signed by the governor last week.

It won’t help. It’s a stunt
But neither of these bills would actually alleviate the issue with the cost of energy.
They will only serve to mitigate a small portion of the instability.
Where is the nuclear power plant momey and and the drill baby drill money. Murphy is a joke beholden to wasting our tax money on the way out the door
Double and triple down on stupid.
