Governor Phil Murphy told reporters that he has no plans to lift the mask mandate imposed on children in schools yet and declined to say what health metrics he would need to see before making that decision.
“I continue to envision something that looks phased,” Murphy said. “In other words, the 12 and up kids have been eligible a lot longer and their penetration rate of the vaccine is a lot more significant than the 5 to 11 crowd. That to our way of thinking is a guideline, but listen, the more kids we get vaccinated, the more everybody we can get boosted, the faster we’re going to be able to get out of this, lift the mandate, get rid of all the stuff that is hanging over all of our heads which is weighing heavily including on us.”
The governor appeared slightly taken off-guard when another reporter asked him why he won’t remove statewide mask mandates and allow school districts to decide for themselves whether they will require them, as Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has recently done.
“I think that the general comment – I’m not – while I’m not hanging my hat or we’re not hanging our hat on a particular rate of vaccination, the general point – and we may do that. The general point is well taken, embedded in your question. Folks need to hear this loud and clear. The more kids vaccinated, the more people vaccinated, the more people boosted, the sooner we’ll be able to pull back on X, Y, or Z and obviously the school mask mandate is a big one that people are – it’s hanging over our heads. It’s hanging over my head, all of our heads,” Murphy responded.
“Not necessarily seeing anything differently than Governor Wolf is seeing in Pennsylvania, and I suppose leaving it to local control is still – should be an option. I think Parimal would be mad at me if I didn’t remind folks that the executive order which mandates masking in schools expires on January 11, so that’s a date out there that’s both post-holiday, cold weather. That’s something obviously we’ll need to get our arms around.”

Dear Governor. I did get both shots, but I will not let my children get the shot.
There is no reason for this at all, all the kids that got covid, thank God pulled through very easy, as my son had covid, and after a day he was fine.
Again, I am not talking about adults, I am taking about children.
From what I understand children suffer significantly worse from the Flu than they do from Covid. Most children who have Covid don’t even know they have it and produce natural antibodies. If the flu vaccine was never mandate the COVID vaccine definitely should NOT be !
Kol hakovid to Murphy for being cautious!
0.1547%
Do you know what that number represents? That is the true number of the percentage of the population infected over the past 7 days. These numbers come straight from official sources.
My question is, with the number being anywhere between 0.08% and 0.15% as it has been much of the past few months, other than for reasons of being a control freak, what else would be the governor’s reason for keeping these ridiculous mask mandates in place?
He’s using the mask mandate as a tool to get the kids vaccinated. Since the kids and parents are getting sick of them, they will more likely comply to give their kids a vaccine just to get rid of the mask and get “back to normal” even if the parents and kids would normally not want them. Its all a ploy and an evil one at that. The risk of serious adverse side effects from the vaccine far outweighs any benefit a child may get from it (if at all).
