(TLS Photo of disaster on Sherwood yesterday) Gov. Chris Christie declared a state of emergency after the nor’easter during the weekend caused flooding, power outages, damaged property throughout the state, according to a statement released by the Governor’s Office tonight. “My first order of business as governor is to protect the health, safety and welfare of our citizens,” Christie’s statement said. “I want to ensure that local and county resources are supplemented if needed to get everyone through this as quickly and safely as possible.”
The State of Emergency allows State Police to control traffic, limit access from flooded areas, issue evacuation orders if needed, the statement said.
Christie last declared a state of emergency during a snow storm early February. Star Ledger
