The Lakewood Police Department today named the Good Samaritan who caught a baby dropped from the window of a burning Lakewood home.
33-year-old Rey Carpinteyro was exiting his parked car when he heard a woman screaming to “catch her baby”, Detective Liutenant Greg Staffordsmith says. “Without hesitation, Carpinteyro ran over to the burning home and caught the infant as the mother tossed him from a second story window.”
The Good Samaritan then ran the child to another neighboring home before running back to assist the mother. She too jumped from the second story window. Although her fall was broken by Carpinteyro she did suffer multiple lacerations to her legs.
Both mother and son were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The American Red Cross responded to assist at least one other family who’s home was affected by the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lakewood Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, along with the assistance of the Ocean County Sherriff’s Department CSI Unit.
Responsibility is proactive. Making the other’s needs and concerns your own. God bless you Rey Carpinteyro. I refer to “King Carpenter.” Well done, sir.
