If you are leaving for Yom Tov, you may want to have your mail placed on hold while you’re away. The USPS offers this service free from 3-30 days. It takes just a couple of minutes to sign up, which you can do by clicking here. You can sign up until 2:00 a.m the day you wish to start.
NOTE: When a hold is placed on your mail, it gets placed on the entire address, so if you’re a landlord or a tenant, be sure you both want your mail held.
From my personal experience with the Lakewood Post office, I would suggest printing out a copy of the conformation and placing it in your mail box to remind the mail carrier.
When just put my mail on hold on line and returned from vacation last fall, all of my week’s mail was in my mail box.
This is a NO NO!
Better ask a neighbor or friend to collect it for you!
There are Postal workers who alert burglars to the fact that you are gone.
Got that information from “tips from a former burglar” AARP magazine.
Have a safe Yom Tov!
I think it is a good idea
