Glitch Of Railroad Crossing Lights, Causing Traffic Backup

Train Tracks Lights Falsely Flashing picVIDEO: The Flashing Lights at the Train Tracks at Route 88 and Monmouth Avenue has been causing a heavy traffic backup in the area for the last several hours. The flashing lights which indicates when a train is about to cross, is causing motorists to believe a train is approaching. However, the lights have gone off in error, and vehicles remain stopped at the lights, causing the backup.

The glitch may have been caused by the construction in the area of the railroad tracks, although that has not been confirmed as of this time.

So why don’t they just post a traffic officer there to tell the drivers to keep going? Wouldn’t that solve the problem quickly until it’s repaired?

WOW

i dont see how this causes much traffic since most drivers in this town run the flashing red lights, even when a train is coming down the tracks. its a disgrace and a huge danger

you can see and hear if a train coming, so stop look and listen. I believe a train has to toot its horn when passing through.

this happens way to often we must put our foot down i was late to work bec of this and its very fustarating lpd should be on sight with traffic control instead of 5 cop cars pulling over one car like i witnessed earlyer

Yes , We think its time to put the foot down, lets follow the traffic laws

No more passing buses with flashing RED lights

No more “Brooklyn rolling stops” at stop signs

No more running red light

No more making right hand turns from the speed lane on Rt 9 cutting off the gent in the slow lane

Bring on the Traffic Cameras – let the bad drivers help solve the tax problem and get the LPD back to patrolling the neighborhoods instead of investigating preventable auto accident all day-

Time for me to take my meds ——good night and stay cool

People! Use your common sense. You don’t need a cop out there telling you to go. If you look both ways and see there is no train coming, then proceed. So let’s have LPD post cops at all of these railroad crossing and tie up, I don’t know 4 cops for every crossing in town, which would leave only 4 cops for the rest of the town. Sounds like a great idea to me. Because directing ppl at a rail road crossing is far more important than responding to all the motor vehicle accidents, burglaries, stolen bicycles and calls for suspicious people.

How does it cause traffic by the lights going OFF? unless u meant to say the lights went ON

please keep you dangerous and illegal advice to yourself. If you see a red flashing railroad sign, you must come to a complete stop until the lights go off. When you come to a regular red traffic light, do you look both ways and then proceed straight??? 99/100 times, the light is functioning fine, so don’t assume that because you don’t see a train it is safe, or legal to pass.

The railroad crossing lights on County Line and Park Avenue always used to malfunction like this, but someone must have fixed it because I haven’t seen a false signal in a long time.

Busines as usual

Happened on Squakam also. There was a cop sitting in his car for some reason.

#13- Using “common sense” would mean NOT breaking the law, and risking a collision with another vehicle or worse, an oncoming train. Whether the lights are working properly or not makes no difference. It is still considered a moving violation to go through red flashing lights at a railroad crossing, unless instructed to do so by an officer.

#17 it’s Squankum and the reason the cops is usually there is because the speed limit goes from 50 to 40 when you reach Whispering Pines.
