Food boxes put together by Gelbstein’s Bakery will again be distributed today, as they have been throughout the health emergency in New Jersey for eligible children.
To be eligible, a child must not be receiving free lunch at school. Children whose parents pay for their school lunches are eligible.
Today’s food box distribution will take place at the Clifton Avenue Grade School and the Lakewood Middle School from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
Only those arriving by car will begin receiving boxes at 3:30 with those arriving on foot receiving boxes beginning at 4:00 PM.

Why don’t senior citizens get food packages?
This is a nice endeavor. Are Orthodox Jews allowed to help and be of service to the secular and non-Jewish world? As someone who is not familiar with this aspect of Orthodox Judaism, I am interested in knowing.
I don’t know what you are insinuating over here, but this is a Board of Education undertaking, not an Orthodox Jewish one.
This food is available for any eligible child, Jewish, Mormon, or Republican.
The suggestion that a. this is a project that is only for Orthodox Jews is totally unfounded. the distribution is done at the public school. B. this is the more insidious aspect of the suggestion – that the orthodox Jews are insular and care only about themselves and not about other people. I think the comment is intended to be defamatory and really should be removed.
Absolutely!! Why ever not?
Are these weekend boxes?
Zumy –
It was coming from a sincere place of wanting to better understand your community that I asked. The Orthodox Jews have been been portrayed by secular society in a negative light. I wanted to look beyond this false narrative and ask directly. Wouldn’t you want more non-Orthodox to ask questions about your way of life if it is done in a respectful way and they sincerely want to know?
the orthodox vs non-orthodox is a vast topic. I hope you don’t believe the negative descriptions in the media. But I think we can all agree that the dept of ed has made every effort to be inclusive in the food box distribution, ensuring that all Lakewood children could be provided for. That in itself is to be commended and used as a guide how to interact with others who have different religions, languages or cultures.
