Gelbstein Food Box Distribution Today 3:30-6:00 PM

The Lakewood Board of Education will be distributing free food boxes for children under the age of 18 today, as they have done so throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

To be eligible for the 7-day boxes, children must not be receiving free lunches at school. Children whose parents pay for their school lunches are eligible. All children under the age of 18 are eligible for weekend boxes.

The food boxes, put together by Gelbstein’s Bakery, will be distributed as usual at the Clifton Avenue Grade School and Lakewood Middle School from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM for those arriving by car, and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM for those arriving on foot.

  1. Do you mind letting us know what will be in the box? As you know there are other distributions and… well, I would want to take a box that has things my family will use since I have a choice anyway.
When I picked up a weekend box for my kids no one ever offered me a weekday food box. I have one child not receiving lunch on school. How do I request the weekday box when they are distributing weekend boxes?

  2. The food boxes are great! But not worth a chillul Hashem! PLEASE don’t park at 3:30 and cross the street to get your box as a “walker”. I was waiting in my car for 45 minutes. Is your time more valuable than mine? It’s not! It is obvious and obnoxious both to your fellow yidden and to everyone else waiting. Free frozen pizza, milk and deli are worth alot but not enough to make a chillul Hashem.

  3. to Rikki: I understand your frustration when you see walkers. But I do believe that they are officially allowed to do that (during a certain time frame – they may not be aware that it’s allowed during a certain time frame only). Please see previous week’s notices about the distribution. I think most people that do that have seen the previous notices and were under the impression that this is allowed (during a certain time frame). (Parenthetically, when I go [and wait in line in my car] most of the walkers that I see are public school parents. And those in charge actually give those people priority over those waiting in their cars. If it was not allowed – I believe they’d turn them away.)
