Maybe you have to drive in New Jersey to fully appreciate IDIODs. Nearly everyone with a Garden State driver’s license has enough Infuriating Driving Issues of the Day to regale other poor, confused souls, and Livingston reader Larry Rothenberg is no exception. In seven years as The Road Warrior, I have heard his complaint reverberate like a familiar reader echo:
Where is the sign?
Where is the sign?
Where is the sign?
Like a dirge, this question resounds over all New Jersey traffic. In this case, the sign Larry sought should have shown him where to exit northbound Route 17 in Paramus for the Garden State Parkway.
“The last directional sign I saw told me to keep going north,” he said. “But there was no sign saying where I should turn.”
Actually, Larry missed a sign pointing to an earlier parkway entrance ramp. But it shouldn’t have mattered. The parkway parallels Route 17 in this part of Bergen County. There are multiple entrances to the toll road. Read more in North Jersey.
Like Rt70 going from Rt 9 to Brick – I need to make a left. Do I: 1-get into the left lane to make a left turn? 2- Get into the right lane and turn into a “jug handle”? If I have to get into the right lane do I turn onto the ‘jug handle” before or after I cross the road I want to go left on? I pity the “out of staters”.
