does anyone know what he spoke about for those of us who were not there?
for the amount of people there , i did not imagine any one did not come
It is a bit ironic that an event is held for the entire lakewood kehila and the (the speech at the little league field) and the only notification is done through the internet.
here we go again they paskind who the godel hador is
What an event!! I am so happy I missed work to go with my children.
2 points. 1. LPD great job. Dep Chief Capper and all his boys from the SWAT team and the rest of the LPD really showed why they are unique. They were so patient in protecting the gadol hador from getting swarmed by crowds. I watched as they ran by foot with the car by 9th Street. It was also great to see Greg Meyers back in buisness! All around LPD great job u r the best. LCSW and Chavairim etc. Thank you for your work.
2. Why does there need to be 20 askanim and 15 photographers surrounding him so that noone can see him?!
Let us hope his influenece brings more kedusha and kvod shomayim to Lakewood!
LPD you guys did a wonderful job with all the crowd. Also a thank you to Dep Cheif Capper,LT Meyers,R’Meir L’ R’ EhermanCHaveirim and Lcsw for a job well done.
Keep it up
To change the subject a bit… Yossel, you seem to be quite a “macher” yourself. I can’t believe you couldn’t get close enough the Harav Shteinman. I mean, like how do you and others know the names of all the police officers? I’ve lived in Lakewood for over 30 years and I only noticed this phonomenon recently of all these people knowing the police officers by name. How and most of all why do you do that?
to #7 first of all some of them have been around for years so you recognise them and you can look at any officer on their shirt it has their name on it.
But why?!? It seems like all these spouting police officer’s names all the time lately, are wannabee machers. Like I said, I’ve been here longer than most of these police officers and noone ever seemed to be interested in knowing all of them by name. THere are, apparantly, those who have belts full of cell phones, blackberries, key chains, etc, and then there are those who know police officers’ names! Does that make them feel important or something? Nebach.
Why does the event have to be policed so heavily? Can we not be expected to treat HoRav Shteinman Shlita with dignity and give him a wide, comfortable path to walk and thru the crowds? It make the event look more like a Hollywood celebrity visiting than the Gadol Hador! Watching the crowds being pushed aside left me with a very bad feeling.
unfortunately look at the crowds they needed to moved they weren’t making way only converging.
a few years ago when the Godal Hador came to Lakewood and he stayed overnight at the Rosh Yeshiva home, i lived on Forest Ave and saw first hand on how the crowd control was rapidly getting out of hand
The LWPD couldn’t control the crowd and the situation was getting tense. there was pushing and shoving against the cops, i was afraid that by the end of it all some one was going to get in trouble. My question to you all is why do they bring in the police to guarding the stage area putting people in possible danger of arrest (watch the video clip, they were getting angry). why cant they use the police for traffic control and stage control frum people ….i believe it will cause less chllul hashem and less potential unfortunate situation for the public Trust me i am not advocating pushing i just dont want to wait for the shoe to fall
LPD was only supposed to be there for traffic on the streets, but were asked to assist When the crowds started getting bigger and pushed and shoved to get a little closer.
If the police were barely able to keep the crowd under control, imagine how much worse it would be if it was just “people we know” that were trying to control everybody.
Why do they subject the Rav to these pushing crowds, long, exhausting trips and many speeches? He appears to be so weak and fragile. THe chizuk is nice, but isn’t protecting the Rov’s health and strength more imortant?
to 480 Aish says
the police were not to be there in such a YET when the oilam jumped the barriers it went totaly out of control both going in and out of the BMG YESHIVA EVENT..
If the oilam cant be respectful and listen to the directions of the LCSW or the other assigned people helping out – then there is no choice.
a few jumped ontop of the stage and one photograpeher was actualy on top of R Shteinmans table which was being pushed back.
No LPD was on the stage – this was specific to try to keep a low profile. When peopel rushed the doors to were R Shetienman was entering and later converged on the cars vs opening an area to let the cars through there was no other choice but to let LPD do the excellent job they did. This was for your safety and especialy R’ Shteinmans. Even though most of the oilam were respectful there were those that held it was their chiyuv to get closer with no concern for others or the mesdaranim.
The fact is that the oilam all wanted to see the Gadol Hador but at the same time many were not willing to step aside to get the cars and people through in a safe manner- THE LPD WAS THERE FOR YOUR SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF THE CAR OCCUPANTS TO AVOID ANY CRASHES AND MAKING SURE NO ONE GETS HURT
Where were the fire marshal’s?
i have no idea who this fellow is, but his visit seems to have been such a blessing to those who attended. it must have been an honor for the lakewood jewish community to have this person visit here.
to # 15
Thank you!
well said, i appreciate, and respect your view
Kol Tov
#12. I believe the LWPD was on hand for traffic and for the general safety of the event. I also believe they only got Involved with the crowd control when LCSW needed help. I also observed many people pushing and disobeying the police. I know many of the officer who were in the crowd were part of the SWAT team and I believe they have special training and the patience to deal with so many people pushing and shoving. I wish we could have a visit and not have the community act the way they did. I watched adults pushing young children.
He must be a very holy and respected man in the Jewish sector if thousands of students and the rabbis closed their Talmud books to greet him.
Old timer just saw your response. let me explain it to you. I am not a macher and I am not “connected”. I do try however to be a mentsch. When I once went to the Police with an issue I was having Greg Meyer was nicer than nice and tried hard to help me. Thereofre I remember his name and face and when he was injured he was in my thoughts. Dep. Chief Capper was in the paper after the terrible SWAT team debacle and his men courageously acted to protect each other and then save the murderous thug who shot them. We all owe him a special thanks therefore I remember him.
We and the media pounce on the PD and others in public office etc. when they mess up. Most times however they are doing good things for us. Let us not forget to personally thank them! I agree there is no reason for people to know every officers name as if they were famous athletes (I’m sure even the Police would rather keep a low profile) however if someone does you a favor never forget that man.
Yossel, your point is well taken. Although I can’t say I’ve ever noticed, or even thought of noticing, the names of our police officers, your are absolutiely correct in saying that they deserve our gratitude and recognition at all times, and especially when they go out of their way for us.
Yes, police are great and many times truly heroic when protecting the public they are sworn to serve and protect. We expect no less, but for all those who were not there, why not relay the content of what the esteemed HoRav Shteinman Shlita spoke about? Are we really focused on what is the core purpose of the event, the esteemed HoRav Shteinman Shlita’s message to the community or who’s who in the community?
#16 the fire marshals were not requested to assist . as it was an outdoor event with no fires they would not have been needed.
Number 24 and 16
There where fire marchels there and they can around to check before the event started .
more then the majority acted civilized. the problem are the indviduals who think they must shake R Shteinmen hand or get a bracha. We all wish we could but he obviously could not do that as it would take morethen a day to shake everyones hand.
I was 2 inches from R Shteinman but i did not shake his hand as it was not the proper thing to do as the need to keep his safety from the pushing crowd was more important to a man of his age.
if the indviduals were not so self centered we all (measdranim) could have listned to his words of chizuk.
To #4 You are absolutely correct. To me and my husband, the Tosher Rebbe is the Godol Ha’Dor! The beauty about Yiddishkeit is that we can all agree to disagree. I would be more comfortable if the article would have read that R’ Ahron Leib Steinman is “one of the gedolei ha’dor”.
