Frum Community To Gather To Pay Respect To Officer Matlosz

317_Brought_through_lakewood_to_funeral_home_picEXCLUSIVE: [Click here for Letter from Roshei Yeshivah of BMG] TLS has learned that a unanimous decision was reached as to the location of the gathering spot for those of the Frum community who will be paying their respect to fallen officer Chris Matlosz.

The location of the gathering for Thursday’s funeral, will be on Monmouth Avenue, between 7th Street and 12th Street.

The procession will be making its way down Monmouth Avenue between 11:10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and residents are asked to stand on either side of the road. Overflow crowds will move towards County Line Road.

The entire Lakewood Police Department will be escorting the hearse down Monmouth Avenue.

It is also requested by Askonim as well as by the police department, that those in attendance show extreme sensitivity to the deceased and to the procession, by avoiding any unnecessary talk or noise while the procession makes its way through Lakewood.

Also, as earlier noted, police have strongly requested that TLS ask residents to avoid cutting through the procession – by foot or with a vehicle – as it shows much disrespect. TLS.

  1. PLEASE show as much respect as you would at a frum funeral. PLEASE no loud talking, no jokes, NO CUTTING into the precession. This is an opportunity to make a HUGE chillul hashem OR a HUGE kiddush hashem

  2. I am so happy to see that the Frum community will also be gathering to honor Officer Matlosz. This article warms my heart..a lot of times I feel like we are living in 2 separate towns. This brings hope to me that we can all co-exist and respect eachother. R.I.P Chris. xo

  3. to #2 I can’t agree more with you. well said, and to chris’s family our hearts go out to you at this time and remember the township of lakewood loves you

  4. Although it shouldn’t need to be said, please put all cell phones on quiet or vibrate. Let us all stand in solidarity with the appropriate decorum so that we can demonstrate our appreciation for the ultimate sacrifice Officer Chris made for the safety of our entire community.

  5. It is the jewish custom to show respect to dignitaries and respected people by wearing a hat. That’s why most wear hats all the time its our uniform.

  6. wear a hat dont wear a hat…just have respect..thats all their asking for. and if u feel u cant give respect and ur gonna push to the front, talk, and make a rukis then please stay home. we are there to show them our support and NOT to take over the whole place.

  7. All my co-workers read the comments on this forum and it made a huge Kiddush Hashem the support the community has shown towards this tragedy.
p.s. i`m the only frum person @ this office and also The only one that does not on a regular basis read these comments!
so keep in mind your comments “will” cause either a Kid or Chil Hashem
    it`s up to you!

  8. Sometimes we forget about what is important in life. Seeing the Rabbis and the community being so supportive throughout this ordeal has been really heart warming as lakewood appeared as one community. Jews stop tearing yourself apart, you have never been by a secular funeral before? If not you will figure it out. Dont worry about hat jacket…..its not what it’s about, just be there to show your last respects.

For once let us stand together proudly!!

  9. To 14, good advice, but likely not everyone will know about the custom to remove hats, (many don’t have internet.) So it’s good if everyone knows it is not being done out of disrespect, but rather the opposite.

  10. Let’s act with respect to make a kidush hashem and to show the rest of the lakewood police force respect and appreciation for all theyr hard work. And also thanks to Tls for all the gr8 info and videos

  11. It is considered a sign of respect for men to remove their hats. Those who chose not too should put their right hand over their heart and bow their head down as the funeral procession passes. ladies should bow their head and place their right hand over their heart. as the procession passes. under no circustances should anyone cut across the funeral procession by walking, or driving through it as this is a sign of extreme disrespect. Cell phones should not be turned on and speaking loudly is also considered a sign of extrreme disrespect. Those with military affiliation should salute when the funeral entourage passes. I hope this clarifys some issues

  12. to 23- thanx!!! most of us do not wish to show any disrespect-just we have never been to a secular funeral before. We must all stand side by side, united as one. Thanx tls for all the info.

  13. I see no reason to remove your hats if that’s your religion. Just being there and showing your respect is all you need to do. I wouldn’t be offended and don’t think anyone else would be too.

  14. The leter from BMG adminstrative ofice says:

“In light of the horrifying event that occurred in our town, the community should participate en masse (in the procession) to show solidarity and respect for the wellbeing of the (police and armed) government.

A specific area has been designated by the community liasons . Please show your respect in a fitting and proper way.”

  15. #28 you make it sound like some form letter printed out by a school secretary.
The letter was from the Roshei Yeshiva (Deans) of the Yeshiva and personally signed by all of them.
It was a request to participate, (NOT JUST TO SIT HOME AND POST COMMENTS ON BLOGS), as members of the Lakewood community in a show of respect and solidarity as well as to express our grief and condolonces to a fallen hero.

  16. Oops, I did not mean “armed” I mant “police and army” which would be the appropriate concept of “Malchus” i.e. the authorities who maintain law, order and the protection of citizens.

  17. I dont think it is appropriate to add the word army either when its not part of the letter . Government is enough because that is the word used . In this case the intent was for us to show solidarity and respect for the police officers in general and Officer Matlosz particularly , who are the part of our local government who risk their lives for our safety ,every day .
