Frigid temperatures have gripped New Jersey, and are here to stay for several days, the National Weather Service says.
The coldest weather for the next few days will be this evening, with temperatures dropping to the single digits, and wind chill values as low as 12 below zero.
The Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory, which is in effect from January 7, 10:00 PM EST until January 8, 09:00 AM EST. During that time, temperatures will drop to approximately 12 below zero.
Temperatures will remain below the freezing mark for the remainder of the week and into the weekend, except for part of Friday, which can see temperatures crawl just above the freezing mark.
A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors, make sure exposed skin is covered.
Protect exposed water pipes by using heating tape or by trickling water through them to prevent freezing.
