A Frum Lakewood woman was shaken up today when a man in broad daylight attempted to steal her vehicle while she was inside with her infant, the victim tells TLS.
The victim relates that at approximately 4:30 PM this afternoon, the mother was nursing her infant in the back seat of her vehicle in the Gourmet Glatt (former ShopRite) plaza, when a vehicle pulled up alongside hers.
But what happened next was shocking.
The man, who the victim says saw her in the vehicle, opened her car door, jumped in and began looking near the ignition for the keys, apparently attempting to drive off. A pocketbook sitting there was not touched.
The woman began screaming and jumped out of the car with her infant in her arms, and immediately phoned police. The suspect then fled the scene.
The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-twenties, black hair and glasses, driving a blue jeep.
“People need to be vigilant,” the victim told TLS. “Especially during the Yom Tov shopping season, sometimes wives wait inside a vehicle alone while their husbands run inside – you need to make sure you keep your vehicle locked. He’s going to strike again.”
Police are investigating the incident.
