Friends And Family Of Amit Bornstien To Hold Protest At Candidates Debate Tomorrow

monmouth county library map manalapanTomorrow evening, October 27, family and friends of Amit Bornstien will once again hold a protest, this time at a debate scheduled for all the local candidates, the family’s Attorney, David Katz notified TLS. The debate will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Monmouth County library in Manalapan, 125 Symmes Drive at Intersection of Rte. 9.

“Please ask everyone to come out and ask your Monmouth County NJ residents to vote for a new Sheriff – Eric Brophy. It’s clear to me that Sheriff Golden, the present sheriff, is covering up this horrendous crime”, David Katz wrote in an email to TLS.

On July 29, 2010, Amit Bornstein, 22, of Marlboro was arrested at his home by Monmouth County Sheriff’s Officers on a bench warrant for failing to appear in Court for minor misdemeanor and traffic infractions. Seven hours later Correction Officers dropped Amit’s dead body at CentraState Hospital.

Little is known about what happened while in custody, as surveillance tapes were seized by the Prosecutor’s Office and have not been released. Two months after Amit’s death, Sherriff Shaun Golden has yet to make any statement about the incident; now the Bornstein family is demanding accountability for the death of their son.

According to investigators at least eight Correction Officers were involved in the incident. Though the CO’s initially claimed Mr. Bornstein “tossed them around like dolls,” autopsy photos show that Amit was shackled and beaten to death after asking to make a phone call home. Amit’s family and neighbors are demanding the release of the county jail video and audio tapes, and a fair and full investigation into his death, with appropriate disciplinary and criminal charges filed against his killers.

  1. This is nonsense. I think it would be best for the family and their so called attorney to permit the authorities an opportunity to fully investigate this matter. Any good attorney knows that evidence would not be released until the investigation has been completed. Yes this is a very tragic and sad story but come on, let the matter take its course through the courts, not the media.

  2. Golden is one of Gov Christi’s puppets , he was hand picked by the Gov to replace the Lt Gov as Sheriff, so ask the Gov to release the video .

  3. This story breaks my heart and scares me to no end, It can happen to any one, it can happen to our children, as well. Can anyone suggest who we can write to or call to protest this? I may not be able to be there in person, but i need to cry out when this happens to stop it from happening again.

  4. Why isn’t the Non-Jewish public making an outcry? Where is the media? In NY, when someone died in custody, there has always been an immediate investigation – with full blown coverage in the media. I would assume if they were innocent, the POLICE would want an investigation to clear themselves. Something very fishy on the Police end.

  5. If the Marlboro police are blameless, they have nothing to fear. The
seemingly reluctance on the police’s part to exert every effort to show their innocence, points to their committ of a crime; murder.

I would want a complete independent investigation into the events from the arrest to the delivery of the body to the hospitol—–and nothing less—-blue code of silence be damm !!

  6. To #12-

The Marlboro Police Department did not participate in this arrest, nor did they have anything to do with the murder that occured in the Monmouth County Jail. The Monmouth County Sheriffs Officers made the arrest- the very same Monmouth County Sheriiffs Office responsible for guarding and policing the Monmouth County Jail.

  7. This was a brazen attack on an innocent young man (maybe not innocent of a traffic violation, but, that’s not being a “criminal”). His whole case was mismanaged from the arrest to the fatal beating. There should be a hue and cry about this.

  8. Your argument has been used by many during WWII…Do you have the facts straight? How come no satement has been released hinting to an investigation taking place?

  9. great post. if only others were as clear-headed as you instead of salivating at the chance to bash the police again…
steriod users dont have the best anger control…anyone want to comment on that?

  10. How can you judge without knowing the facts. Evidence will not be made public until the investigation is complete. The fact that this man was Jewish has nothing to do with it. Did the family allow an autopsy so the cause of death could be determined? If they refused, they add to the problem because we do not know why he died. Did he have a medical condition? Were legal or illegal drugs and issue?

  11. To #14, my error, I thought the Marlboro police were the culprits and
the facts are the Monmouth Sheriff’s office is the party involved.
Toddah rabbah #14 for correcting my terrible mistake.

Also, to TLS, sorry for the vulgarity I certainly will be more
circumspect on comments in the future.
