Friday: No morning busing for many Lakewood elementary routes [UPDATED 6:05 AM]

school bus snow tlsMany Lakewood elementary routes will not be covered for morning busing on Friday, the LSTA told TLS moments ago.

In light of the fact that 125 buses are stationed out of Lakewood in areas that were impacted by the storm and are on delayed openings, many routes will be impacted and unable to provide service.

The following are the vendors and routes that will be impacted:

Jays – All Shachris routes are being serviced. Girls high schools AM and PM routes will be running. There will be no AM service for boys and girls elementary routes.

Semon tov – Same as Jays.

Klarr – update will be announced by the LSTA at 6 AM.

UPDATE 6:05 AM: Klarr will be running a regular service on all routes, except for Bnos Esther Malka 5, and Bnos Bracha 2 and 11.

All other vendors are running regular service on all routes, including elementary routes.

“We apologize for the late notice, however, the impacted towns only recently called the delayed opening,” says Rabbi Krawiec. “Our apologies for any inconvenience.”

As always, call your school’s hotline number for individual school information.

  1. Why is it in this nutty town that if you get transportation your part of the privileged ones and can’t open your mouth to complain when the bus company is just not being fair. ( none of my kids have the way home- can I dare to say yet)

  2. I am flabergassted at this outrage of blatant disregard for the taxpayers of lakewood. This is going to create a total caotic morning commute and is inexcusable. The bus companies should be held accountable and their state and local funding shall be withheld pending a court ruling. Let them feel the squeeze.

  3. How can all Shachris routes be serviced but no AM service for boys and girls elementary routes? Based on the articles reasoning it makes no sense to me.

  4. The bus companies ARE NOT responsible for this fiasco. Neither is the LSTA. The neighboring townships in which Jays and Seman Tov have a great number of buses called for a delayed opening of all public school districts. The buses that do the early morning public school buses then come to Lakewood and do the private school elementary schools. The buses will need to be utilized at that time tomorrow to do the delayed public schools. If there were any way for the bus companies to do the private Lakewood schools, they would but logistically it is because t possible. Stop throwing blame around before you know the facts. And as far as the LSTA goes, I have sat in on meetings with Rabbi Krawiec and representatives from the us companies who have twisted themselves into a pretzel to try to squeeze out even one extra run even at this late point in the year. It is being worked on constantly.

  5. Jays is a Lakewood company. The streets are clean. Didnt they and their drivers have enough mid winter vacations? For girls schools, they we’re off Friday,Shabbos,Sunday,Monday,Tuesday,Thursday. Is that not enough that they can’t do Friday? If your drivers blatantly call in sick in order to start a long weekend off, they should be dealt with just like the DPW workers who played sick during last year’s snow storm. This is totally unacceptable.

  6. I’m confused. The article says there is no elementary school busing in the morning. By yhe 6:05 am update it says, “Klarr will be running a regular service all on routes, except for Bnos Esther Malka 5, and Bnos Bracha 2 and 11. All other vendors are running regular service on all routes, including elementary routes.” So, is there busing or not? My school’s hotline still says there isn’t.

  7. What’s this delay. What is happening in these 90 minutes?? I understand the idea is the snow on the busses need to be cleared. But that could have happened yesterday starting at 1pm no snow was falling and it would not have been a big deal to get 2-3 inches cleared. Why does the whole town have to be turned upside down.

It’s not a issue of privilege vs not privilege. I’ll take my kids no problem but if the whole town get into their cars at the same time… we know what it looks like

  8. What is going to be with those of us that are still missing routes. Its so hard to be going out day after day to pick up kids at 4pm. We dont have the way home on friday either. No minyan bus either. Is this normal in February.

  9. It’s amazing how some (the minority, talking to you #4) of you Lakewooder’s feel so entitled. The morning after a large storm it can take time to clean the buses. If they are coming from out of the area also more so. I know it’s hard for some of you to use common sense but just think for a second as to what has happened in the past 24 hrs.

  10. I agree with number 11. If other towns that are serviced call a delayed opening, why is Lakewood’s busing canceled to accommodate their change of schedule? They have no right to the buses at a time that they are in contract to do other routes that are running on time. If the contract allows this it should be amended for future years. Private schools students should not be second class citizens

  11. Why do other areas with a delayed opening come before lakewood which does not have a delayed opening?
Shouldn’t the schools with delayed opening come 2nd?

Why are they being serviced as a priority??

The schools starting on time are losing out bec a different town is starting late. Makes absolutely no sense.

  12. Lesson on this to schools is midwinter vacation must be cancelled in the future or shortened to Friday/Monday only (no Tuesday). If we close schools for a 2 inch storm – which is almost inevitable in our area.

  13. Call Jays to complain.
Why do they accommodate other towns late schedule before taking care of there own regular schedule here in Lakewood?
Also, something tells me that if we were still under the Board of Ed,they would’ve felt empowered to tell Jays and the others that they have no right to put the others before Lakewood.
But now that we are under the Ltsa, they are too scared to be tough with Jays or with the board of ed of other townships. So we continue to suffer..

And yes LTSA, for 5 years we were under the township and my girls had busses. You step in, and its mid feb, and still no afternoon busses. Remarkable.

  14. can everyone just relax? On February 10, there is simply no way to re-write any contractual language which allowed other district’s late opening to take precedence over Lakewood’s regular start time. Maybe with more advance notice, but not a few hours before school is supposed to start that day. And, this has nothing to do with those who still don’t have busing. It is unfortunate, and maybe even unfair, but this is a separate issue.
My kids also didn’t have busing. Just chalk it up to the ups and downs of life and move on.
