widening rt 9 is great, but we also need smart growth, and no more irresponsible development that has destroyed our town!
thanks so much! that definitely will help some what, but many other roads are tied up-james, pine, cross, prospect, oak, spruce etc etc.. as well, and until we stop the irresponsible building of housing developments we will be doomed.
All these logjams would be greatly alleviated with the widening of Rt 9! It doesn’t make sense to make major changes until Rt 9 is done.
Mr. Vicari – If you get Rt 9 widened, you will have earned my vote!
Mr. Vicari, I appreciate the time you took to write this letter. We hope and pray and pray some more for the time that Rt. 9 finally gets fixed. It’s a disgrace that it’s taking so long AND we keep seeing new housing destroying the little sanity we still have left.
To be honest I’m totally perplexed. We are so fixated on blaming Rt. 9 that we fail to focus on what’s sitting right in front of our noses.
Mr. Vicari, please come take a drive on the COUNTY roads around Lakewood at any time from 8:45-10:00. Take a look at Cross street, Central Ave., James Street and Prospect Street. There are NO EXCUSES for this mess. It’s not the state and not the Township. It’s the COUNTY that’s responsible for these roads. Why oh why does it need to take 15 to drive one simple mile down any of these roads?? The best is yet to come! There are more developments, schools and shopping centers ALREADY approved!
Please let’s focus what we have control over and at least fix these roads! Let’s show the state we are really serious about this problem and do what we can to at least mitigate the pain of driving through Lakewood.
And I’m sure all these people complaining about overdevelopment live in townhomes lol
truth is for the past 10 years the entire tzubur has been up in arms about this sandal, and nothing has been done, in fact since then, realters have sold off huge developments to groups from out of state, because they were prepared to pay more then the locals were able to afford, so i think we are wasting our time here. I saw a sign in yeshiva ,they are looking to put together a few hundred chevrah and move to a new shcunah, thats our only hope
I’m in if its a republican or swing state. I’m done w NJ!!
thank u Mr. Vicari. I’m glad Ocean County turned down the State’s recent Route 9 Redevelopment Plan , which would not have really improved the congestion anyway. You guys caught it in the nick of time. So what can we do to lobby the state to fix the issue? Who calls the shots on funding for such projects? Is it the Governor? DOT Commissioner? Budget Office? We hope and trust that you and Senator Singer will do what you can for us, but what can the people do to convince the state that the situation is dire? ( In 1999 the DOT came down and said that acquiring the land for widening was too expensive, I think the value had increased 500% in the past 20 years. So what solutions are on the table anyway? What about the 2017 Township Master Plan Ultimatum: “No more construction until Route 9 is widened”? How could we allow our representatives sell out? )
How about standing up to Murphey and his insane rules?
How about lowering the property taxes. With all the building going on property tax should go down not up!!!
